Gilligan’s Island Luau: Maui’s Best Value-Priced Luau

Gilligan’s Island Luau may be one of Maui’s best-kept secrets. Although it has only been around for a few years, this small laid-back luau is known for its intimate seating, friendly service, and spectacular luau performance. The quality of Gilligan’s food and entertainment is on par with the big luau venues but for a fraction of the price.

Gilligan’s Island Luau is located at Gilligan’s Island Bar & Grill, which is a restaurant, sports bar, and entertainment venue in the Maui Nui Golf Club, in Kihei.

The luau is held on an outdoor patio and features scenic views of the golf course, the Pacific Ocean, and Mount Haleakala. The venue sits high on a hill, and the sky, ocean in the distance, and the setting sun make for an incredible panoramic view as the luau begins.

This is a small venue and guests sit close to the stage which greatly enhances the experience. It’s easy to see the performers no matter where you sit, and it feels like you are part of the show.

The luau begins with an open bar and an all-you-care-to-eat luau buffet, accompanied by live Hawaiian music. After dinner guests enjoy a one-hour-long performance that includes hula and a Polynesian dance review. The luau ends with a spectacular fire-knife performance, which feels even more exciting and extraordinary in this small venue.

The Most Bang for Your Buck

Gilligan’s Island Luau is much less expensive than other Maui luaus located closer to the coast, but the show and food are every bit as good. This luau doesn’t have an oceanfront setting or an imu ceremony, but if that doesn’t bother you it is a great little luau for the price.

Past guests are often pleasantly surprised with the friendly service found here too. The Gilligan’s crew has a passion for Hawaiian culture and a knack for making guests feel at home. The staff here really seems to care about their guests having a good time

Pre-Dinner Activities

This is a short-and-sweet, dinner-and-a-show type of luau, and there aren’t any pre-dinner cultural activities to speak of. There is not an imu (underground oven) onsite, so no imu ceremony either.

Seating is pre-assigned. There’s no need to arrive early or wait in line before your designated check-in time.

However, if you do arrive early, there are usually a few local vendors selling handmade arts and crafts on the grounds to check out.  Guests are also welcome to walk around the golf club’s grounds, but not on the golf course when golfers are at play.

Hawaiian Luau Feast

Gilligan’s Island Luau serves a full Hawaiian buffet-style dinner. Traditional luau fare, like slow-roasted kalua pork, is the star of the show. Meanwhile, chicken and fish entrees are also available. As is a great selection of sides, salads, and desserts.

Complimentary beverages include tropical cocktails, mixed drinks, the house red or white wine, beer, soda, orange and pineapple juice, coffee, and iced tea.

Evening Performance

Gilligan’s Island Luau’s one-hour show includes live music, hula, and a Polynesian review. The show features dancing and costumes from Hawaii, New Zealand, and Tahiti. The show ends with a thrilling Samoan fire knife finale you won’t forget!

It is a small stage, so there are fewer performers (usually 6-8 dancers) than some larger luaus. But the performers’ skill, grace, and vibrant personalities certainly make up for it. Likewise, the three-piece band (guitar, ukelele, and percussion) is enough to fill up the small space and enliven the performance.

This luau show may not have the same production quality as a large, flashy resort-style luau. However, the performers are excellent and the closeness of the space makes it feel intimate and authentic.

Seating Packages

General Admission Includes ti leaf lei, open bar, buffet dinner, luau show, and general seating.
VIP SeatingIncludes all of the above, plus a kukui nut lei, priority check-in, and premium seats closest to the stage.
