Honeymooners: we have a secret for you: Hawaii is by far the best place in the world to celebrate your love! With stunning beaches, beautiful sunsets, and a wide array of things to see and do, you can’t go wrong! OK, maybe it’s not that big a secret. And if you’re reading this, you’ve probably already planned your trip, or maybe you’re here already! So, welcome! E komo mai! “That’s great,” we can hear you mumbling, “but what about, you know, luaus?”

Why Go to a Luau?

You’ve probably spent the last few months all consumed with wedding plans. You dreamed it, breathed it, lived it. And maybe starved yourself to fit into that dreamy dress. Or tux, because let’s be real, just about everyone diets before the big day. So here you are. You survived the big day and a super-long flight, and you’ve finally arrived in the beautiful Hawaiian islands for your honeymoon. What to do now? OK, what else to do?

There are so many options for entertainment on Oahu. Plenty of places to see, things to do, and lots of excitement await you! And the best news? Since you no longer have to worry about fitting into that stupid dress and having multitudes of people take your photo – you can eat! And you can enjoy it! And one of the tastiest ways to do this is at a luau.

A luau is a traditional Hawaiian party/feast. You’ll find loads of fresh meats and seafood, vegetables, salads, and fruit. Some of the traditional luau delicacies are poi, kalua pig cooked in an underground oven called an imu, and lomilomi salmon, topped off with creamy coconut haupia. And no luau is complete without entertainment: hula and other Polynesian dancing, storytelling, and traditional music to boot!

We thought you’d never ask. Oahu offers a range of luau options that include all kinds of fun activities.

This is great if you want to enjoy a romantic dinner in the shadow of the iconic crater and watch the sunset over the crystal blue waters And what a dinner it is! Enjoy super fresh ingredients from local farms – this is the ONLY farm-to-table buffet on the islands. Foodies rejoice!

For heart-stopping entertainment, check out the Chief’s Luau at Wet ‘n’ Wild Hawaii water park. Chief Sielu Avea is a world-champion fire knife dancer as well as a fantastic host. But don’t worry too much about the dudes twirling the flaming blades. Your ears will stay attached.

A day at the Polynesian Cultural Center offers something the other luaus don’t: a canoe ride between six “villages” representing the varied cultures of Polynesia. Not only that, but you have opportunities to learn a bunch of different crafts and skills, and of course – a buffet feast with all the traditional goodies!

And The Winner Is…

For our money, the BEST luau for honeymooners is the Ka Moana Luau.

Located in downtown Honolulu, it’s just twenty minutes from Waikiki, so you can, you know, sleep in. The luau show features a special segment where honeymooners are invited to dance. The luau experience also includes some pretty romantic activities, including lei-making and a hula lesson. See where we’re going? Ah, the romance.

Will My Wedding Attire Still Fit Afterward?

We gained three pounds just telling you about all the options, so we won’t make any promises we can’t keep.

But one thing we can promise is that you’ll have an amazing time that will spice up your honeymoon!
