The Best Luau on Oahu 2019
Vacationers in Hawaii are some of the greatest in the world. They tend to be among the most adventurous travelers around – they want to not only enjoy the sights and experience the thrills, they’re also more likely immerse themselves in the local culture. As the luau experts, we’re often asked what we think is the best luau on Oahu. Our beautiful island has many terrific luaus to choose from, so it’s never an easy question to answer. Some established luaus on Oahu come under new management, or change locations. These things can impact the overall experience—for better or worse—and affect how we rate them. What was a fantastic luau just a couple of years ago may have really declined, and another that was only so-so might have decided to invest in better food, entertainment, or even locale, and is now among the very best.
This is why we regularly visit all of the luaus on Oahu, and rate them for you. And every year, we decide on one luau that we feel stands above the rest. Don’t get us wrong, every luau we offer is great. We’re very selective, and there are many Oahu luaus that don’t meet our standards, which us why you don’t see every luau on our site.
If visions of hula dancers and the smell of roasting pork are the sum total of your knowledge about luaus, do we have a treat in store for you! Of course, virtually all luaus include traditional music and a tasty menu, but there is much more to look forward to. And you don’t have to go to the trouble of scouring the island of Oahu to find the best luau either. While you were sipping a mai tai on the beach, we were researching and comparing the features of the various Oahu luau experiences and rating them for you! We even made a nifty comparison chart so you can get an idea of the things we look for in a top-notch luau.
Luau Comparison Details
We know that every vacationer has different ideas as to what makes a great luau. For some, it may be a plentiful supply of cocktails. Refreshing! Other visitors are looking strictly at the menu, which we totally get. The food is certainly one of the headliners of these amazing events.
For our comparison, we looked at details that mean the most to visitors to Oahu. We found that luau attendees don’t simply want to watch a good show. They want to be included in the overall experience.
Here are some of the details we rate for each luau:
- Entertainment – Is there an especially exciting fire knife dance? Is there audience participation?
- Food and Beverages – How’s the fish? Is the poi tasty? What about adult drinks?
- Miscellaneous – Is the luau set in a gorgeous location? Are the staff friendly and accommodating?
