Hawaii’s most iconic landmark is the extinct volcanic crater called Diamond Head. It rises high above the sea right next to Waikiki and offers breathtaking views of the blue Pacific on one side, and Honolulu and the dramatic island landscapes on the other.
For those who look more closely, Diamond Head offers a rich display of local flora and fauna. A visit to this famous crater is an absolute must-do when you’re on Oahu, and so is a luau evening. This tour combines the two into an exciting and delicious day!

The Diamond Head Luau Hula Lesson
Start out with your hike up Diamond Head. As it lies just a short distance from Waikiki, the walk to the base of the crater could be your warm-up. The visitors center provides you with an audio guide and ear buds. This is also the place to ask any questions before you begin your moderate hike. Along the way you learn all about the history, nature, and geology of the famous crater.
Once you reach the top you’re treated to unforgettable views of the mountainous ridges all around Honolulu, the azure sea and on clear day you can even get a glimpse of the neighboring islands. In winter, humpback whales like to play in the shallow waters beneath Diamond Head so be on the lookout!
After learning all about ancient Hawaiian crafts your appetite will be stoked for all the exotic flavors of Polynesia. Indulge in a variety of modern and traditional cuisine made with local fruits and vegetables, as well as the freshest fish and seafood. Bring all your senses to the table as you taste, smell, touch, and see the bounty of the islands.
Now that your taste buds are satisfied, it’s time to entertain your ears and eyes. Relax and enjoy the breathtaking display of Polynesian music and dance.
After your hike, make your way to the Waikiki Aquarium, situated between Diamond Head and Waikiki and surrounded by a beautiful park. Admission to the aquarium is included in the price of the luau, so be sure to set aside some time to get acquainted with the local sea life.
After all this activity you’re sure to be hungry! The Diamond Head Luau is famous for its unique farm-to-table buffet as well as its intimate setting. After you enjoy the fascinating aquarium exhibits, head to the luau, where you’re received with Hawaiian hospitality, leis, and cocktails. Kick back and relax as you watch the colorful sunset, and join in on traditional craft lessons, such as Coconut-headband weaving and lei making. You can even get your own temporary tattoo! If you like music, maybe hula dancing and ukulele lessons are for you.
