Mauka Warriors Luau has everything you want and expect in a luau: the food, dancing, and music, plus something special and unique. That something special is a focus on Polynesia’s history of wars and warrior culture. Although warrior culture was once an important part of Hawaiian life, its teachings and traditions were suppressed in the 1800s and were almost forgotten. However, Mauka Warriors Luau is committed to honoring these traditions and teaching this rich history to others. To do so, Mauka incorporates these warrior traditions throughout the luau.

Mauka Warriors Luau features extensive pre-dinner cultural activities and incorporates bits of history and battle reenactments into the evening performance. There is still plenty of hula dancing and live music, but this is the only luau that shines a spotlight on Polynesia’s warrior traditions.

Storytelling Steeped in Hawaiian History

The luau show revolves around a retelling of the Battle of Kipapa, where warriors defended Oahu from invaders. The audience is also introduced to the infamous warrior spirits, the “Night Marchers,” who are said to inhabit the land west of Honolulu. And any celebration of Hawaiian warrior culture would be incomplete without introducing King Kamehameha I, the great warrior chief who united the Hawaiian Islands.

The luau is outdoors and uncovered, set in a secluded area of Coral Crater Adventure Park, which is closed during the luau.

Pre-Dinner Activities

Mauka Warriors Luau offers many hands-on cultural activities before dinner begins. Learn about Polynesian culture, get a temporary tattoo, and enjoy the cooking activities, Maori games, hula lessons, and even lessons in ancient Hawaiian martial arts (subject to instructor availability). If you are looking for a unique souvenir, there are also a few craft tables set up on the grounds.

There is also a large outdoor kitchen area featuring a Samoan umu. (Similar to the Hawaiian imu or in-ground oven). Guests can walk around the kitchen, take a closer look at the umu, and ask questions. Just before dinner, Mauka presents a special demonstration to remove the roasted pig from the umu.

Hawaiian Luau Feast

Mauka’s all-you-can-eat luau buffet offers several traditional Hawaiian luau foods such as slow-roasted Kalua pork, taro rolls, lomi lomi salmon, and poi, as well as several complementary side dishes and local favorites. Please see the full dinner menu below.

Guests may redeem their complimentary drink tickets at the on-site bar. Adult beverages (cocktails, beer, and wine) and non-alcoholic beverages (water, soft drinks, juice, etc.) are available. Mauka offers a wide variety of liquor options. However, guests may have to pay extra to upgrade to top-shelf liquors, souvenir cups, or novelty glasses like fresh pineapples.

Evening Performance

The Luau show has everything that you possibly want and so much more. Live music, a talented cast, intricate costumes, and a line-up that showcases the various forms of Polynesian dancing. Mauka Warriors Luau seamlessly incorporates Polynesian culture, history, warrior traditions, and battle reenactments into the show, making the performance anything but typical.

Finally, the night ends with a thrilling fire-knife dance performance featuring multiple performers on two stages, and even the young fire-knife dancers-in-training get to be part of the show. You won’t find a luau show quite like this one anywhere on Oahu!

Getting There

Mauka Warriors Luau at Coral Crater is located at 91-1780 Midway Street, Kapolei, HI 96707. Coral Crater Adventure Park is in Kapolei, in West Oahu. Coral Crater is around 24 miles from Honolulu and Waikiki and only 5 miles away from the resorts of Ko Olina. Please note that rush-hour traffic can significantly affect travel times.

Round-trip transportation is available from several convenient pick-up locations in the Waikiki area for $30/person. Shuttle service from Pier 2 at the Honolulu Cruise Terminal is also available for $30/person. Round-trip shuttle service from four Ko Olina area pickup locations is FREE. Transportation must be added to your reservation before 3:00 PM the day of the reservation.
