Waikiki’s Diamond Head Luau is a Foodies Paradise!

Diamond Head Luau is Hawaii’s foodie luau. Three nights a week they offer a luau buffet that is head and shoulders above the rest. And every Friday night is “Foodie Friday”, a weekly event featuring the area’s top chefs and their signature dishes. Unlike anything else in the islands, Foodie Friday luaus are a fun and fresh way to experience Hawaii’s diverse food culture.

Diamond Head Luau is one of Waikiki’s premier oceanfront luaus. It is just a short walk from most resorts in Waikiki Beach, making it one of the most popular luaus in town.

Another feature that sets Diamond Head apart from the rest is its size. This is a small venue, with a capacity of around 100 people. This is considerably smaller than other luaus on Oahu which typically seat several hundred guests a night. Diamond Head’s capacity is ‘just right’, it’s big enough to feel festive, without feeling too crowded or overwhelming.

The Waikiki Aquarium Afterhours

Diamond Head Luau is held on the oceanfront lawn of the Waikiki Aquarium. Although the aquarium is closed during the luau, it still makes for a pretty and serene setting for a party. All luau guests are also given a 14-day pass to visit the aquarium during the daytime ($12 value).

Although it is a small aquarium, they have over fifteen marine exhibits, including a monk seal habitat and a living coral reef. There’s also a wide variety of native Hawaiian plant species exhibited on the grounds. The Aquarium is the perfect stop for rainy days or when you just need a break from the beach!

Pre-Dinner Activities

Diamond Head Luau offers a variety of cultural activities at activity stations set up around the lawn. Guests of all ages can learn to play traditional Hawaiian instruments, string a fresh flower lei bracelet, weave a headband, or get a temporary Polynesian tattoo. And the group hula lessons are always fun, whether you’re a participant or just an observer. There’s also live Hawaiian music and a bar on-site to keep you entertained.

Hawaiian Luau Feast

Rarely does food take center stage at a Hawaiian luau, but Diamond Head Luau is proving that it can be done. They’ve partnered with the Chart House, a favorite local restaurant, to provide the traditional luau fare you would expect with some surprising additions. Kalua Pig and Lomi Lomi Salmon are served alongside Braised Short Ribs and Lobster Linguine. Sounds good, right?

The Foodie Friday Experience at Diamond Head Luau

Diamond Head Luau’s “Foodie Friday” experience is unlike any other. Diamond Head has teamed with some of the area’s finest restaurants and food vendors to create a fresh culinary experience to accompany their Friday night luaus. Instead of the usual luau buffet line, the luau grounds are lined with food stalls where local restaurants serve their signature dishes.

You’ll find high-quality Hawaiian and Asian-inspired cuisine, made from fresh local ingredients. Each dish is proudly served by the very people who prepared it. And the best part is Foodie Friday luau guests get to try them all. Bring your appetite though, because there are eight vendors to choose from and the portions are generous.

The friendly atmosphere and food vendors on site make every Friday feel like a block party. Come ready to try lots of new foods, mingle with fellow travelers, and have a great time!

Evening Performance

Great food and a convenient location aren’t the only things that set this luau apart from other luaus. Despite the luau’s relaxed atmosphere and small size, the entertainment at Diamond Head is world-class. They have one of the freshest and liveliest luau shows around, featuring a talented cast of performers and musicians. You’ll enjoy a night of live music, Polynesian dancing, and a thrilling fire knife performance to end the night.
